I never thought I'd be able to travel this far, but here I am in San Francisco. Erica's family is really great. It's so nice to be able to just relax and enjoy spending time with my fiancée, experiencing all these new things. California is one of those places where I always imagined myself living. I also imagined myself living in England and New York, but even thinking about going that far makes the room spin a little.

Since we're going to be gone a while, I'm going to need someone to look after my cat, Holly. Just general feeding, litter box cleaning and affection. Beth, Laura or Janis? Would you be willing to take care of a kitty for a few weeks? Don't worry, I'll pay you, of course.

Which reminds me, Erica and I are probably going to be here much longer than we originally planned. I plan to telecommute and keep up my editing quota, so you won't be completely swamped in my absence. But don't miss me too much, okay? I know I'm an invaluable part of your days.

	Looks like the cat thing is covered. How long you gunna be out there? If you're into jazz...I feel like I should know this or not but there's a really relaxed pub that has live jazz all the time in SF Dogpatch Saloon. The people are really laid back and it isn't crazy loud. And then Biscuits & Blues is a really chill blues/jazz lounge and they have awesome fish and chips. (Reply to this) (Thread)

Looks like it. Though it would be amusing if she suddenly had her own entourage. She wouldn't even know what to do with herself. We don't really know now, but probably at least an extra week. Now is not a good time to be in town.

Those places sound really great. I'll have to keep them in mind. I've already requested that we visit a fancy schmancy toy store that I found online.

She is so spoiled. I love her.

It would be a good time and I would be happy and stuff, except that she and her husband are blaming me for the early birth and me for our mother ignoring her because Erica and I are expecting a baby, too. As though there can't ever be two babies in this family or even this town. It never fails. I'm always the scapegoat, and I'm just tired of that shit.

Sorry. I don't mean to vent. You know what my family is like.

Erica is from here, too! It doesn't surprise me that two of my favorite people are from here. I like what I've seen so far.

I know she does. I mean, a lot of it isn't even her. I can understand her frustration. But her husband lashes out at me like it's somehow my fault that our mom is insane. And she just lets him. Maybe I'm just a fucking easy target. But if they think I'm asking for attention or thinking I'm better than her or anyone, they're just wrong.

We haven't run away. Not really. We just need a place to relax for a while. Air to breathe that's not infested with this bullshit.

Sorry to bash your mom. But I feel as an outside party I can say this shit. If it pisses you off just let me know.
